Destined Sports brings firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the prep school basketball landscape to every athlete we work with. Having completed a post-grad year before going on to play Division I basketball, founder Cory McClure understands the process from a player’s perspective and knows how important the right environment can be in an athlete’s development.
The process begins by getting to know the student-athlete and their family. We look at academic and athletic goals, playing ability, school performance, financial considerations, and what the family is ultimately looking for in a prep school experience. From there, we identify programs that align with the athlete’s needs and where they have a realistic opportunity to develop and succeed.
Destined Sports also helps families navigate the conversations and decisions that follow. We connect with prep school coaches on the athlete’s behalf, gather feedback and interest, help families understand what questions to ask, and provide guidance throughout the application, financial aid, and school selection process.
The final decision always belongs to the family. Our role is to provide insight, perspective, and honest guidance so that decision can be made with confidence. Beyond basketball and academics, we pay close attention to the relationship between the player and coach, because the right coaching environment can have a significant impact on the athlete’s overall experience.
This work began with our first player placement in 2008 and continues to be driven by the same purpose: helping student-athletes find the environment that fits who they are, where they are in their development, and where they hope to go next.
Building a Complete Player Profile
A strong player profile gives prep school coaches the information they need to evaluate a student-athlete both on and off the court. Coach T helps each athlete put together a clear, well-rounded profile that may include academic transcripts, highlights, full game film, contact information, social media, playing schedules, and other relevant information.
The process also includes understanding why the athlete is considering prep school and what they hope to accomplish. These goals help provide context when connecting with coaches and identifying potential opportunities.
With programs evaluating many prospective athletes, standing out takes more than basketball ability. The goal is to give coaches a complete picture of the student-athlete, including their academics, experience, potential, character, and motivation.
Finding the Right School and Program
Finding the right prep school involves much more than looking at a program’s name or reputation. Coach T works with athletes and their families to identify schools that align with their academic needs, athletic ability, development goals, and overall priorities.
Each potential opportunity is considered carefully, including the basketball program, coaching environment, academics, school culture, and what the athlete hopes to accomplish during their prep school experience.
As conversations with schools progress, Coach T helps families evaluate their options and determine which programs may offer the strongest overall fit. The objective is not simply to find a place to play. It is to identify an environment where the student-athlete has the opportunity to develop, contribute, and succeed.
Guidance Throughout the Placement Process
Working with Destined Sports begins with understanding the student-athlete and their family. Coach T takes the time to learn about their goals, discuss why they are considering prep school, and explain what they can expect throughout the placement process.
Once the athlete’s information is ready, Coach T connects with appropriate prep school programs on the family’s behalf, sharing relevant academic and athletic information and helping facilitate conversations with coaches.
As opportunities develop, families receive guidance in evaluating programs, asking the right questions, navigating applications, and considering the factors that matter when making a final decision.
Throughout the process, Coach T serves as a resource and sounding board for both the athlete and their family, helping them understand their options and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
